A Fall Harvest Festival
September 22, 2019
Preston Street BIA invites you to La Vendemmia the Italian celebration of the harvest. This year's fest includes an all-new Maker's Market an outdoor dining experience under the stars, grape stomping, wine making tours and so much more.
La Vendemmia is Italian for 'grape harvest.'
It marks the time of year when the grapes are traditionally picked, pressed and made into wine. In Italy, the grape harvest is a big community event, where the hard work of picking and pressing is followed by a party.
La Vendemmia's Maker's Market features a curated group of local artisans and Preston Street businesses. Much like open-air markets you can find across this globe, our market will be filled with local delicacies, unique handmade goods and everything in between.

In Italy, the completion of the harvest always ends with a celebratory meal that brings everyone together. We invite the Ottawa community to share in this tradition and join us in our very first starlit, family-style pasta dinner. The dinner will be alfresco under the stars and tree lights of Preston Street on Sunday, Sept. 22. We will set up our “long table” with end to end tables that will seat a total of 150 people. Our accordion player will set the mood with melodies that remind you of dining.
- Fresh Bread, Olive oil and balsamic vinegar
- Pasta with Pomodoro Sauce
- The Prescott's famous Meatballs
- Delicious pastries from the Italian Pastry Shop
- Wine available for purchase at the event
What are people saying about Little Italy?
Here are a few of our favourite comments from social media:
Full of great restaurants with a refurbished main street, it's the heart of Little Italy in Ottawa, Canada's capital city. Especially lively on warm summer evenings where patios are full of locals and visitors alike.
Preston Street is known as little Italy. Love it for pasta, entertainment or drinks - for any Italian fare, you can find it here. There are also more well-known chain bars/pubs and a comedy club to boot. It is nice to go and walk in the summer; stop for a beer or some pizza and enjoy the feel of Little Italy right in the heart of Ottawa. Minutes from downtown and near attractions such as the Tulip Festival and canal ice skating, it is a forever extending and growing community.”
Have been in Little Italy on Preston Street a few times recently, both at lunch time and in the evening. Always busy. A fun place to stroll. Lots of restaurants, primarily, but not exclusively, Italian and shops along the street. On a summer evening, people are sitting out on restaurant patios and strolling along, eating gelato. A very pleasant environment.”
This is just a great walk. The street has been refurbished and there are so many great coffee shops and places to buy cheese like Luciano foods that it makes your spin. Luciano foods has hams hanging and wonderful Italian breads as well as cheeses etc...like stepping into Italy. Preston street is very vibrant, alive and a lot of fun.
