Get to Know the People on Preston

Daniel C. Fernandes

“I’ve known that I wanted to be a lawyer since I was eight. I remember going into my dad’s lawyer’s office at the age of seven and liking the office. My dad emigrated in the mid-50s and he part of first wave of Portuguese immigrants to Ottawa. My dad passed away when I was eight and I believe that cemented my decision to be a lawyer. It was definitely something that never changed.”

“Commercial business law involves the development of lands and buildings, acting for financial lenders in commercial financing, acting for landlords in the drafting of commercial leases and acting on the sale or purchase of businesses. My firm focuses on these areas.”

“It’s all about taking a problem that a client has, whether it’s how they’re going to work a deal or situation and being able to work out where they can profit the most and where it will makes sense for everybody involved. It’s getting a deal to close somehow, based on your ideas and expertise. If something succeeds as a result of our firm’s work, that’s a good day.”

“This is a great place to come into work. My staff is the best and they love the area. I’m four minutes from my house. You can walk over to Bob’s place, Stoneface Dolly’s, for breakfast. I go to my trainer down the street. It’s a great street. If I’m having lunch with a client, most say ‘We’re coming to you.’”
