Get to Know the People on Preston
"I have been involved with theatre for most of my life and have been doing shows at The Gladstone Theatre since 2009. For the past several years I have been serving as The Gladstone’s Season Coordinator, helping organize the various theatre companies that rent the space. I am also a founding member of Plosive Productions, which makes its home here too. Recently, The Gladstone Theatre incorporated and is now operating as a not-for-profit entity, so I am currently serving as the inaugural Theatre Manager until we hire someone to take on the role. I’m looking forward to having more time to dedicate to my true passions of acting, directing and producing--at The Gladstone, of course!"
"I love the opportunity this theatre affords for independent producers to stage plays in a beautiful space. The Gladstone has a great identity and presence in the community so it enable producers to extend their reach to a larger audience and to work on a bigger scale. The theatre itself is a wonderful size and very well designed--every seat is a hit seat! The renovations that were undertaken after the GCTC moved out served to make attending productions here a great experience, starting the moment you step into the lobby."
"The Gladstone is so well supported by the Little Italy community. Although the theatre draws patrons and performers from all over Ottawa, there are so many people from the Preston Street area who are among our ‘regulars’. I live in the area myself and I love it for the great mix of businesses, the walkability and the biking, especially on the new Trillium pathway. Little Italy is such a pretty area and so central in Ottawa. It’s nice to see the population density increasing here and I hope the growth continues to be managed carefully to respect the people who have been here a long time. I go to an old- school barber in the neighbourhood who often encourages me to stop by for coffee even if I don’t need a haircut. Whether I’m at the theatre or just out and about on Preston Street, I feel very much at home here."
