“My mother was a seamstress all her life. When I was younger, I helped her by doing a little sewing; whatever I could do. I really like working with colourful fabric and things like that so I decided to go into the business.”

“In Laos we don’t really have commercial patterns. We have to make them from scratch. A lot of my friends would come over and ask me to make clothes for them. We’d discuss what to make, draw it out, measure them and make the pattern.”

“I became a seamstress after high school in Laos. I learned pattern-making and how to sew. I had a little tailoring shop in Vientiane, the capital. After I moved here, I went to lots of professional classes and worked with some well-known designers. I’ve been working in tailoring, making clothes and alterations since I came here from Laos.”

“I can do alterations for women and men, like hemming and zippers. All your tailoring needs. I specialize in wedding dresses, bridesmaid dresses. I alter tuxedos, suits and military uniforms to make them fit better. I also do custom-made clothing for women from scratch.”

“I really like this area. I like Dow’s Lake; I bring my kids there. It’s just a beautiful area. I was looking for a shop that wasn’t too big. This was perfect for what I needed. The changes here are a positive sign.”
